Press & Communications OfficerSalary: £28,000 per annumHours: 35 hours per week (Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm) plus attendance at eventsMAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLETo provide excellent communications and public relations support, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and priorities at all times. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication, problem-solving, decision-making and time-management skills while supporting day-to-day operations.The role requires building positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, media contacts and the wider public, handling enquiries with professionalism, empathy and discretion. Excellent literacy, verbal communication, analytical and IT skills are essential, along with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.This is a confidential position requiring proven PR and communications experience. Responsibilities include managing media relations, preparing press releases, organising interviews and events, monitoring media coverage and maintaining a positive public profile for the organisation.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES• Conduct market research, analyse forecasts and perform competitor analysis.• Prepare marketing, sales and trend reports.• Write articles, press releases and other communications materials.• Manage enquiries from journalists and media contacts.• Organise interviews, press conferences and PR events.• Build and maintain relationships with media representatives.• Monitor media coverage and current affairs relevant to the organisation.• Develop and deliver proactive media campaigns.• Produce evaluation reports on media coverage and campaign performance.• Advise management on media relations and communications strategy.• Edit and review communications content produced by colleagues.• Maintain and update website and social media channels.• Respond to urgent media enquiries and communications issues.• Support branding, marketing and advertising initiatives.• Create engaging content for social media, websites and print materials.• Monitor industry trends and provide insights to management.• Assist with campaign planning, delivery and performance analysis.• Attend meetings with senior leadership and provide regular updates.• Maintain records and reporting data accurately.• Identify and develop positive stories for newsletters and social media.• Support the maintenance of the organisation's media and photo library.• Work flexibly to support operational requirements when needed.• Uphold a professional, compassionate and positive public image at all times.PERSON SPECIFICATIONEssential:• Strong written and verbal communication skills.• Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.• Computer literacy and database experience.• Confidential and professional approach.• Content creation, media relations and digital marketing skills.• Data analysis and reporting capability.• Project management and planning skills.• Crisis communications awareness.• Minimum 12 months' relevant communications, PR or marketing experience.Desirable:• Experience working with vulnerable or community-focused groups.• Knowledge of SEO, social media platforms and email marketing.• Experience managing press releases and media outreach programmes.• Strategic communications planning experience.
